Challenge 1A Ground Skills -
This is for anyone who has never studied with us. It is not simply a beginner's course - it is suitable for people of all levels of experience who wish to learn where our syllabus begins and how we approach our horsemanship.
This course is followed immediately by a Ridden Course for those who wish to carry on, or for anyone who has already done a groundskills course. See window below.
Challenge 2A/3A Multi - Level
Being multi-level this course will be able to help those who are graduates of Challenge 1A onwards. You will be offered help at your own level.
Please note that 1A is delivered in two separate courses. One is Introduction and Ground Skills, the other is Riding Skills
This 1A course will offer and present :
- theoretical knowledge, problem solving, real-life risk management, ground skills, saddle fitting, float loading, open paddock catching skills, and the pre-requisites for riding.
It is the pre-requisite course for 1A Riding Skills.
The 2A course is multi-level. It will be mainly riding after some ground skills revision.

Challenge 1A Ridden Course
This is scheduled immediately after the Groundskills course above for anyone who wishes to carry on.
It is also for anyone who has done a 1A Groundskills course previously and is ready to start their riding skills.
We are running this course immediately after the 1A Groundskills course because a lot of people travel VERY long distances to study here and their opportunities to do so are rare. So for all those who would like to have a really good solid block of time with their horse this one is for you.
It is open to any level, and is a rare chance to find ten days to make some big changes to you and your horse.
In ten days we will have plenty of time to cover the ground studies and make good headway into the riding.
This course is good because time is so precious and this is a chance to really make some big changes and accelerate learning for both horses and people.

Log Stacking and Heavy Horse Demonstration
Join Cecil Noakes and Sam Watson as they display the history and art of log stacking and harness work. Cecil is an aging horseman and his knowledge is a national treasure. He can’t walk too well these days but has offered to demonstrate how he used to stack big logs for burning in the early pioneering days by using Sam and his horses to do the job while Cecil commentates and points out the tricks and pitfalls. This was a very dangerous job so a team of good horses was essential. Sam is very lucky and grateful that Cecil has offered to spend one-on one training time with him in the lead up to the event. This is information that is not in books and has to be lived. Watching the process is amazing. |

TEN DAY COURSE - Challenge 1A, 2A and 3A. Beginners accepted too.
If you can only attend for the normal five day minimum that is acceptable (provided they are the first five days), but for those who can extend their visit the full ten days makes a lot of difference and will add enormous value to your effort.
Special note - if you are looking for a 1A Ridden Course and have done a 1A Groundskills course you can attend the last five days only if preferred and we will fit you in with those who in the first five days of this course completed the Ground skills.
We have had many requests for a longer course like this. This is because a lot of people travel VERY long distances to study here and their opportunities to do so are rare. So for all those who would like to have a really good solid block of time with their horse this one is for you.
