STANDARD 12 PLAIT KANGAROO HIDE STOCKWHIP
These are high quality whips handmade in Australia for Horses and Horsemen.
The quality of a whip is judged by the materials used and the craftsmanship. The more plaits a whip has (strands of leather used to weave the whip) the more flow it has and the finer and more elegant the whip becomes.
These whips are a twelve plait whip made from high grade kangaroo hide and the handles are made from carbon fibre providing durability and strength with the appropriate flex.
These whips are designed to be a comfortable length when used on the back of a horse, however they are also a great whip for on the ground.
They are used by Sam and Sascha for training and demonstrations.
The quality of workmanship in these whips makes them ideal for work, showing, as a collector's item, for competition or purely for fun.
Feel free to enquire about custom-made matching pairs, special handles and custom plaiting.
Replacement whipfalls are available.
SIZING:
The standard whips in stock at the moment are either 5 foot or 5 foot six inches. Both sizes are ideal.
5 foot: Faster for fancy cracking, up off the ground for children or small adults.
5 foot 6 inches: Has a little more momentum and is just a tiny bit easier to crack. This is a common size amongst our students.
5 foot 10 inches: Has more momentum and is a little easier to crack.

SPECIAL 'TWO TONE' KANGAROO HIDE WHIPS:
If you are looking for a unique, quality whip without the expense of a specially custom ordered one then the twelve plait, two-tone, whips will suit you.
These whips are made with the same materials and craftsmanship as the standard 12 plait, but two different colours are combined to create a decorative plaiting.
There are only a couple of these available at any one time and each consignment is never exaclty the same due to their handcrafted nature.
If you are thinking of ordering a pair it is advisable to order the two whips at the same time as it is impossible to match them precisely afterwards.

CARING FOR YOUR WHIP:
When whips are new they are a little stiff, particularly in the joint between the handle and the whip itself. This will free up with use, so beware of over-treating it with softening treatments.
There is a tendency to 'over treat' whips with leather oils and other highly penetrative products.
We recommend a leather creme to keep the kangaroo hide in good condition and to help resist the adverse effects of water on the leather.
This particular cream only penetrates just enough to protect but does not easily make the whip feel too heavy or soggy.
Try to avoid using your whip in a way that contacts the ground too often, especially gravel, bitumen etc, as this can damage your whip.
By focusing upward the whip will crack higher in the air and minimise damage to the whip from hitting the ground. When learning or whenever possible try to crack on grass or another soft surface.

The fall (the piece of thin unplaited leather that is attached to the bottom of the plaited whip) is designed to gradually wear away with use, and so it is replaceable. It can last for years though.
Each time a cracker 'cracks' off it will probably shorten the fall a little. The falls can be replaced by you with some care and patience. Simply unlace the half hitches at the top of the fall and slide the new one in. Get a replacement one here. |
